Abstract

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood glucose levels or hyperglycemia. Diabetes can cause damage to multiple organs, such as the heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves, and vascular system, as well as an increased in periodontal disease. The periodontal disease mechanisms in diabetic conditions including, an increased of alveolar bone resorption, osteoclast formation, and osteoblast apoptosis. The activity of alveolar bone resorption were initiated by osteoblast which was secreted a key mediator of osteoclastogenesis process, namely the receptor
activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL). This article will be discuss about the role of RANKL in the alveolar bone resorption process in diabetes conditions, which would be usefull for studying the diabetes complication such as alveolar bone resorption through the mechanism that related with the role of RANKL.
