Regionalisme African Union
Sebuah Tanggapan Komplementer Terhadap Tesis “Perjalanan Panjang” Konstitusionalisme ASEAN dari G.B. Arundhati
Abstract
This article is a respond to G.B. Arundhati’s doctoral thesis of “Perjalanan Panjang” ASEAN (ASEAN’s Long Journey). Arundhati employed an indicative approach on ASEAN’s transformation toward people oriented rule-based-organization. Such perspective was then implemented in this study on African Union in the context democratizing the region. Like ASEAN, African nations shared historical background as the colonized nations with widespread authoritarian governments. This study will put emphasize on two aspects. First, the changing attitude toward the primacy of sovereignty through the novelty of non-indifference principle. Second, the institutionalization people’s representation via regional parliament and CSO organization. Both aspects connected through the spirit to realizing the solidarity among Africans. Different from ASEAN, Africa took a different path on institutionalizing their regional organization.
Keywords: Regionalism; African Union; International Organization; Democratization.
