Abstract

SQ3R method is an efficient method of reading that can involve students become active in constructing science and engaging students to be active in studying and understanding the material directly that consists of 5 steps: survey, question, read, recite, and review. In step students are required to recite to make concept maps according to the understanding the material being.  The purpose of this study was to describe the learning activities of students during the learning SQ3R method using of science, examines the differences in learning outcomes and retention result learn of science use SQ3R method with a method is commonly used in school. This type of research is research design the research experiments with using post-test control design. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, tests, and documentation. Data analysis methods to test hypotheses using Independent Sample T-Test with the help of SPSS 16. The results of this research are the learning activities of students during the learning SQ3R method using of science criteria are active and there are significant differences in the results of the learning and retention of learning outcomes students use SQ3R method of science with method that are commonly used in schools.
