Abstract

Abstract. High thinking level is a complex thinking process which has advantage to deliver many solutions which involve consideration and interpretation, and high mental activities. One of learning approaches which can be used to improve students’ high thinking level is Open Ended Learning Approach (OELA) which implemented using Role Playing Method. The purpose of this research is to know the difference of students’ high thinking level on the first meeting and the second meeting of experiment class students and the effect of Open Ended Learning Approach (OELA) using Role Playing Method on the students’ achievement. In this research, class VII C as the experiment class and class VII D as the control class. In the first step, the researcher gave pre-test to know the students’ ability by doing the learning activity. The control class used conventional learning method, and the experiment class used Open Ended Learning Approach using Role Playing Method. The last step was gave post-test to know the enhancing of the students’ achievement. Result of the research showed that there was a difference between the students’ high thinking level in the first step and the second step in the experiment class which showed by the increasing of the students’ high order thinking after implement Open Ended Learning Approach with Role Playing Method. The result showed that by using Open Ended Learning Approach using Role Playing Method gave positive effect on student achievement, seven grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Jember.
