Pemanfaatan Ekstrak Biji Buah Alpukat (Persea americana) sebagai Inhibitor Korosi Pada Kawat Stainless Steel Ortodonti

Abstract

Orthodontic wires are in consistent contact with saliva in the oral cavity, which can lead to corrosion. Therefore, it is crucial to prevent the corrosion of orthodontic wires, as it leads to a reduction in the quality and strength of the wires.. Avocado seeds are part of the avocado fruit that is not utilized and tends to be discarded as waste. Avocado seeds contain tannin which have potential as corrosion inhibitors. The aim of this study to determine the effectiveness of avocado fruit seed waste extract (Persea americana) as a corrosion inhibitor on stainless steel-based orthodontic wires. The number of samples was 16 stainless steel orthodontic wires measuring 0.017 × 0.025 inches with a length of 11.6 cm that had been pretreated and divided into control group, 1.5 g/L treatment group, 2 g/L treatment group, and 2.5 g/L treatment group. The treatment samples were immersed in variation concentration for 1 minute twice a day and the control group was immersed in artificial saliva fo r 7 days and stored in an incubator. The corrosion rate of the samples was measured using the weight loss method. The results showed that the administration of avocado fruit seed extract can reduce the corrosion rate of stainless steel orthodontic wire. The results of the one way ANOVA obtained a significance value of <0.05 and in the Post Hoc LSD test it is known that there are significant results between the control group and all treatment groups and significant results among the three treatment groups. However, insignificant differences were found in the concentration groups of 2 g/L and 2.5 g/Ls. Avocado seed extract is effective as a corrosion inhibitor and a concentration of 2 g/L effectively reduces the corrosion rate of stainless steel orthodontic wires.
