Abstract
Abstract: Learning science, especially biology, is closely related to the concept of contextual learning. It required a real media, so students have a clear concept to an example directly. So, teachers can bring the object of observation which taken from the environment. Insects are the Arthropoda that have three pairs of legs, a segmented body divided into three regions (head, thorax, and abdomen), and found everywhere. Diversity and density of insect of tomato (Lycopersicon Esculentum Mill.) at Desa Sapikerep Kecamaran Sukapura Kabupaten Probolinggo can used as alternatif of learning source. The purpose of this study is to know diversity and density of insect of tomato at agriculture area Desa Sapikerep Kecamatan Sukapura Kabupaten Probolinggo, and Probolinggo and the usage as insect field guide book. Diversity of insects were observed by observational method, an 8 m2 area of tomato plants in the morning. Diversity of insects were analyzed by Shannon-Wiener diversity. Insect of tomato plants consist of 8 orders belonging to 35 species. The result of this study usage as insect field guide book. To facilitate the learning process, teacher can use a supporting reference book, that is a field guide book. Field guide book contains pictures of species, descriptions, and glosary that can help readers to understand latin terms. From the result of validation test of products, the field guide book can be recommended as one alternative learing resources in form of reference books in school, especially in the learning material biodiversity.
