DECONSTRUCTION OF MASCULINITY IN THE POWER OF THE DOG FILM (2021)
Abstract
This research discusses the deconstruction of masculinity in The Power Of The Dog film. The characters Peter and Phil in this movie are two characters who have different male images. Phil with masculine visuals often bullies Peter who is visualized differently from the image of masculine men. The purpose of this research is to describe the deconstruction of masculinity visualized through Peter's character. This research uses the theory of deconstruction and mise-en-scene to examine the data found. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The results showed a deconstruction or reversal of the image attached to men. The reversal of the structure includes that men are not always synonymous with being dominant, rough, having a physical body with an athletic, strong, macho appearance. The character Peter in The Power of The Dog shows that men are not seen as charismatic or humble, meek, timid, emotional like crying, feminine behavior.
