Abstract

This article elaborates the Minak Jinggo story. It is a unique phenomenon. Some people regard it as just a tale, resulting from human creativity, that had nothing to do with any historical events; Other people hold the view that the story had a connection with great event, Paregreg War, Perang Paregreg, between Majapahit and Blambangan. The story is still held by the local people until today and becomes the most popular story of janger art performance in Banyuwangi. It can be briefly stated that the proposal of Minak Jinggo (MJ) to marry Kencono Wungu (KW) symbolizes the willingness of Blambangan not to be subordinated by Majapahit.
