Abstract

 

Abstract. This study aims to determine the application of guided discovery model of learning to cognitive learning outcomes and measure significant differences between the cognitive learning using guided discovery learning models with conventional learning model students in SMPN 13 Prafi. This quasi-experimental research using the Matching Only Posttest Control Group Design involving class VII B as experimental class and class VII C as the control class. The sampling technique was done by purposive sampling. The experimental classes using guided discovery learning while the control class using the learning that has been used in schools, namely direct instruction. The research instrument used tests of cognitive diagnosis. The results showed that the average cognitive achievement test conducted at the end of the experimental class learning at 61.74, while the control class 52.79. This shows that the application of guided discovery learning model further enhances cognitive learning outcomes of students in SMPN 13 Prafi. In line with the results of data processing using independent sample t-test, with significance level α = 5% was obtained tcount = 2.338. t table 1.687 is known so t count> t table which means that H 0 is rejected. This shows that there are significant differences cognitive learning outcomes of students between the control class and the experimental class. Learning physics by using a model of guided discovery learning can help students to discover and develop its own facts and concepts and facilitate learners in the learning process so as to improve the cognitive abilities of physics.
