Abstract

Abstract. Textbooks play important roles in learning process. They function as references to gain knowledge and to find answers of questions given by teachers. However, not all textbooks have good quality. Some textbooks do not have complete explanation and appropriate language use. Therefore, teachers should analyze the content of textbooks and analyze their relevance to the current curriculum.Based on 2013 curriculum, government provides textbooks for teachers and students from Elementary School to Senior High School and Vocational School. Teacher book and Student Book were published by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Teacher Book has short explanation about learning activities so that teachers and students can adjust learning process with the latest curriculum.This research is intended to analize whether Teacher Book of Mathematics is relevant to Scientific Approach and to describe mathematics teachers’ difficulties in comprehending the Teacher Book. The design of this research is Descriptive Research. Source of information in this research is Teacher Book of Mathematics. Besides, information is also obtained from mathematics teachers in Lumajang. Some instruments used in this research are table consisting of questions about the content of Teacher Book and questionnaire. Procedures of collecting data are content analysis and documentation. Answers from the tables were counted to know the percentage of appropriateness. The finding shows that there are 99 activities in observing stages, 59 activities in questioning stage, 58 activities in experimenting stage, 79 activities in associating stage, and 94 activities in communicating stage. It means that Teacher Book is relevant to Scientific Approach since five stages of Scientific Approach are included in this book. Based on the result of the questionnaire, it is found that one teacher said that observing is difficult, three teachers said observing is mediocre, and one teacher said that observing is easy to do. In questioning stage, two teachers said that questioning is easy, two teachers said that questioning is average, and one teacher is easy. In the third stage, three teachers said that experimenting is mediocre, and two teachers said that experimenting is easy. In the fourth stage, four teachers said that associating is mediocre and one teacher said that it is easy. In the last stage, two teachers said that communicating is easy, two teachers said that communicating is mediocre, and one teacher said that it is difficult. Therefore, it is recommended to use Teacher Book and combine this book with interesting activities in the classroom such as solving problems, experimenting, and discussing.
